There are currently fewer international flights to Chiang Mai (CNX) than before COVID. Instead of booking one ticket from your departure airport to Chiang Mai, it might be significantly cheaper to book a ticket to Bangkok and then a separate ticket between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. However, this may be less convenient and lead to more complications if there is a flight delay. There may also be differences in baggage allowances between the tickets.

There are two airports in Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang Airport (DMK). If you are flying through Bangkok, it’s very important to confirm whether or not your next flight is at the same airport.

Airport and Transportation Information

If you are booked for a room at Horizon:  In order to facilitate varied arrival times, our host hotel Horizon Village and Resort will provide a shuttle to and from the Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX).  We realize you may not know the exact flight information at the time of booking, so don't forget to inform the hotel by emailing them (reservations@horizonvillage.net) when you have secured this information. If you do not, they will not know when to pick you up.

To catch the shuttle, proceed to Domestic Arrival Gate 2.  There will be a representative from the hotel with a sign "Horizon Village Hotel".   See this doc with a photo for information.

If you choose not to wait for the Horizon van, and you want to take your own transportation, a cab stand is located outside of baggage claim and should cost about 600THB+, which is about 20 USD.  The hotel is about 15-20 km from the airport.

Registration Information

Once at the Horizon Village and Resort you will register for your room at the front desk. EMDC staff will then direct you to EMDC registration, located in the auditorium lobby.  That is where you will pick up your conference information and sign your security form.  The registration & information desk will be open as listed below, or their regular house will be daily 8:00 - 17:00.

Pre-EMDC 2023 will begin at 8:30 on 10 May and end after the evening session on 13 May. Registration will be open 09 May (auditorium lobby) 9:00 - 21:00 and rooms are available by 14:00. For locals or those off site, registration will also open at 7:30 on 10 May.

EMDC 2023 will begin at 8:30 on 15 May and end after the evening session on 18 May. Registration will be on Sunday 14 May (Auditorium Lobby) 9:00 - 21:00 and rooms are available by 14:00. For locals or those off site, registration will also open 7:30 on 15 May.

Post-EMDC 2023 will begin after the 10:30 coffee break on 19 May and end after the evening session on 22 May. Registration will be on 18 May (auditorium lobby) 9:00 - 18:00. For locals or those off site, registration will also open 7:30 on 19 May.

Check In & Out Hotel Information

• Check-in time after 14:00

• Early check-in is subject to availability and hotel confirmation

• Check-in after 12:00-midnight: that night will be charged since the hotel did keep the room during the previous night

• Check out time is 12:00-noon

• Late Check out until 14:00 is granted on request basis and upon confirmation of the hotel

• Late Check out after 14:00: a 50% room rate will be charged; late check out after 17:00 is considered an additional night with 100% room rate charged

• Your meal plan starts with the evening meal, not the noon meal

On departure day the breakfast and the midday meal will be available.

Transportation to the Chiang Mai Airport will be provided by the hotel if you are booked at Horizon.  Please remember to fill in your flight information as part of your hotel registration process so they have a complete list of who will need transportation and when.  If your plans change while at the conference, please inform the Hotel information desk of your changes.
