Hotel (& Meal) Information

EMDC 2023 is held at Horizon Resort Conference Center in Chiang Mai, Thailand. If you are planning to staying at the on-site housing at Horizon Village, please note that you cannot book housing for EMDC 2023 through the Horizon website. Our team will contact you on how to complete your housing after you register based on the dates you indicated. Housing at Horizon will fill up quickly.

If you stay on site, room and board fees are eventually paid directly to the Horizon Conference Center (but you indicate your preference with us first). We have arranged the Horizon rooms (sometimes adding “Triples”) to maximize the space at Horizon. When you indicate your desired  accommodation we will set that up with Horizon.  You will then receive an email (reservations@horizonvillage.net) to confirm your reservation and cost. 

Horizon housing costs (below) are per person, per night, including 3 meals, coffee breaks, and pick-up at the airport. These prices are from arrival on 09 May to departure on 23 May (covering pre-EMDC & EMDC & post-EMDC). The room rate for days before and after will be almost the same—but will only include breakfast. You will have to purchase the other meals/food separately. When you register for EMDC 2023 you will indicate if you want Horizon housing or you will stay off site.

–Normal Rooms– (208 rooms)

Single Room: Thai Baht 2,650/ per night/ per room (2,650 per person)

Couple Room: Thai Baht 3,600/ per night/ per room (1,800 per person) (two people)

Twin Sharing: Thai Baht 1,800/ per night/ per person (1,800 per person) (two people) (two beds)

Triple Sharing: Thai Baht 1,650/ per night/ per person (1,650 per person) (three people) (three beds)


–Luxury Rooms– (30 rooms)

Horizon has recently finished construction of 30 new luxury rooms. These are a higher quality and higher price:

Single Room: Thai Baht 3,550/ per night/ per room (3,550 per person)

Couple Room: Thai Baht 4,500/ per night/ per room (2,250 per person) (two people)

Twin Sharing: Thai Baht 4,500/ per night/ per room/ (2,250 per person) (two people) (two beds)


–Suite Rooms– (6 new rooms)

Horizon has just finished construction of 6 new suite rooms. These are a higher quality and higher price:

Single Room: Thai Baht 4,050/ per night/ per room

Couple Room: Thai Baht 5000/ per night/ per room (2 persons, king bed) (two people)

Check In & Out Hotel Information

• Check-in time after 14:00

• Early check-in is subject to availability and hotel confirmation

• Check-in after 12:00-midnight: that night will be charged since the hotel did keep the room during the previous night

• Check out time is 12:00-noon

• Late Check out until 14:00 is granted on request basis and upon confirmation of the hotel

• Late Check out after 14:00: a 50% room rate will be charged; late check out after 17:00 is considered an additional night with 100% room rate charged

• Your meal plan starts with the evening meal, not the noon meal

Off-site Guests (Day Participants)
Horizon is giving us a “package deal”. We realize that some Asia-based people can find housing/ food off site for less cost. But for the use of the meeting rooms and facilities, and for coffee breaks (which include those who are staying off-site), Horizon needs to charge a “stay out” fee for those who are not on site.

For outside guests, the fee is Baht 200 (full day), which includes 2 coffee breaks + use of the facilities and internet. You can purchase lunch (optional) for Baht 300/person, and stay for dinner (optional) Baht 450/persons. Guests will book/pay directly with the hotel at the time of registration or at the door upon arrival.

You will pay this directly to the Horizon staff at a table next to the EMDC registration table. Very easy.

To our local participants: Yes, we know there are “cheaper places in Chiang Mai.” We have always kept our fees as low as possible, and we are using Horizon because it works for our purposes (large enough; enough Training Track rooms). Thank you for understanding! Also know that our volunteer helpers and staff have kept the fees very low (we do not use an outside, middle-man, conference service organization that raises rates).

Overflow
We will fill Horizon’s housing. After that you will need to book housing on your own.

Travel
If you are booked at Horizon Village, they will provide a shuttle to and from the Chiang Mai International Airport.

To catch the shuttle, proceed to Domestic Arrival Gate 1. There will be a representative from the hotel with a sign Horizon Village Hotel.

If you choose not to wait and provide for your own transportation, a cab stand is located outside of baggage claim and should cost 600THB+, which is about 20 USD. The hotel is about 15-20 km from the airport. Our admin team cannot be responsible for your whereabouts if you do not send your flight details to reservations@horizonvillage.net

The fees above include a nice room, 3 great meals, coffee/snacks, and van pick up/ drop off at the airport! Have a look at the Horizon site and see their rooms, pools, animals (a zoo, birds) and gardens. We are using Horizon because it is the only place big enough (number of people attending & rooms for training), not because it is beautiful. But it is!
